Foreign scammers
Unfortunately, Internet is a known home to many scammers and people trying to extract your money in fraudulent ways. Some of them place ads on List.am offering for sale exotic animals, elite breeds of dogs and cats, laptops, photo equipment, telephones, cars abroad at very low prices. They ask for prepayment by bank transfer. As a result, the buyer does not receive the items and loses all their money.
To avoid fraud on List.am, never buy or sell outside of Armenia!
We care about your safety, so we would like to share some useful tips on how to avoid becoming a victim of these scams.
Please be extra careful if:
- The price of new things is too low (for example, Yorkshire Terrier for $200 or iPhone 5 for $320), and the product is abroad;
- There is no phone number in the ad or a foreign phone number is used;
- Image does not match the description of the ad. For example, the ad is claiming to sell a specific model, but the image represents a similar but different model;
- The text of the ad, as well as emails to you are translated using an automated online translator;
- The seller as many similar ads;
- During email exchange, you find out that the seller is asking to transfer the money to their bank account in advance and then promises to ship the item;
- In addition, there are cases of fraud when someone is asking you to sell them your item and send it to some African country (for example, in Nigeria or Cameroon).
Never agree to pay upfront if in doubt. Never pay via Western Union or other anonymous payment systems.
